Experience the charm and ambience of King's Grant, the historic German Trappist mission built in 1900 near Ixopo and now tastefully restored and refurbished as an enchanting three star graded country lodge that is surrounded by the lush farmlands and bird-inhabited waters.

For over one hundred years King's Grant was run by the resident Dutch & German Brothers & Sisters of Mariannhill as the St Isidor Mission and Millworks. Originally built by German Trappist Monks in 1891, the ancient red brick buildings have been restored and converted into an enchanting country guest lodge with Bed & Breakfast as well as self-catering rooms accommodating 24 - 26 guests.

All guestrooms are en-suite and have private garden facing patios where guests are invited to relax, unwind and catch a glimpse of the past. They are also equipped with tea trays with homemade biscuits, DSTV bouquet, fans, heaters and electric blankets. Free Wi-Fi hotspots in most rooms and available at the restaurant.

The quaint chapel, with a stately gothic-style spire above the bell-tower and original stained glass windows, stands at the heart of the village and is ideal for small and intimate wedding ceremonies of up to 70 people.
The conference centre is housed in the historic St. Isidor Mill and includes one breakaway room plus a stylish lounge where delegates meet for teas. Surrounded by peaceful flower filled gardens and situated on a large farming estate in the Ixopo district, King's Grant offers the perfect venue for a productive conference or any other special function you may wish to hold. Country hospitality and cuisine, together with attention to detail, will ensure a successful time spent at our unique venue.
The St Isidor Mill Museum & the fully equipped Blacksmith's workshop give a fascinating insight into life in the past on the mission. The maize mill has been built using yellowwood and Baltic pine and is one of the few workable mills left in South Africa. Due to the historic red brick buildings and the unique character and atmosphere, King's Grant offers a truly visual experience that will undoubtedly excite and inspire every artist. We house a well-lit art studio and encourage our guests to bring their own equipment and materials for an enchanting art retreat.
The Restaurant and Banquet Hall used for wedding receptions & functions open onto a courtyard of flower filled gardens that surround a tinkling fountain. Enjoy delicious country cuisine, cream teas or lunches. Fine wine and dining in our licensed restaurant - bookings essential.
The 1200ha estate offers the opportunities to enjoy walks, fishing, canoeing, cycling and excellent bird watching with over 200 different species recorded.
