Waking up to impala butting their horns outside our windows was delightful. The 12 sleeper house quickly became our home away from home. Its kitchen and braai area are fully equipped, and we managed to rustle up some pretty amazing meals. The facilities are very clean, with plenty of hot water and comfortable bedding. There's also snooker and darts for those who are more adventurous. After two nights, we left feeling recharged and ready to resume our busy lives, but also planning a return visit soon to this ideally situated and comfortable guest farm. Thanks very much to our hosts!"

"My group of 10 ladies and I had a good time - the service was excellent, the rooms were clean. As for the kitchen it had everything that we needed. To me, it's a 5 star in its own right; we definetly will go back to Ithabiseng for our next vacation. Not forgetting the swimming pool it was GOOD, CLEAN AND FRESH. Peter and Ortrud, your place is the place to be."

(RoomsForAfrica translated)

After a busy year, we spent some relaxing days on the guest farm in December 2010. We were warmly welcomed by Ortrud and Peter and enjoyed our conversations with both very much. Their tips for exploring the surrounding area we received from them were valuable to us. The hours at the pool, walks in the garden and an evening barbecue in front of our house in the company of their two dogs were wonderful. We can recommend a stay on the ITHABISÈNG Guest Farm.

"We were looking to go away, just me and my fiancé'. In our world, we live in a 24 hour day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year as parents, mediators, actors, puppet masters, workaholics, chauffeurs, entertainers and the list can go on and on. So when we decided to actually go away, except the feeling of feeling guilty about leaving our two little girls behind with grandma, we thought for two hundred rand a night per person is going to be a regrettable experience. Well, after I made the booking and paid the money in, surprising VERY VERY SIMPLE AND FAST, we started packing. It was all short notice so we hurriedly packed and got on our way. We found the place relatively easy. Ortrud was waiting up for us as we only arrived about nine the first evening. She opened the gate and door to the little place we had booked and firstly I was surprised. The place looked great and had a homely feeling. There was just about everything there that we had forgotten to pack in the rush. There was even mosquito coils, doom, hand wash - very important, there was everything we needed, A HOME AWAY FROM HOME. The shower was great as it had a place to put your toiletries down instead of the floor and you slip and slide to try and retrieve it, none of that. We got to bed early, the bed was comfortable. The next morning, had a shower, got dressed and we going out for the day. The other best thing was a brochures in the room with ALL the information a tourist would need and would understand. There was information about places of interests, places where you could swim, fish, every single activity - outdoor activity you could think of. It was great and not many accommodation places that I have been to have I ever seen it. We packed for the day and were about to leave Ortrud was busy in her vegetable garden, she greeted us and asked how we were and slept. Before we left we climbed onto a viewing tower and looked at all the surroundings, so beautiful so peaceful. We left and started sight-seeing which actually turned into a disaster as all places needed prior booking or don't take day visitors. We decided to return to the guest house because at least that was something we could look forward to. We bought stuff to have a braai and we played pool and darts something which me and my fiancé' in five nearly six years together have never done together, we had a swim and actually it felt really good to spend time together like that which we never have the chance to do. We both realised how good we are at playing those games. We had a fantastic braai and we had everything we needed to have a braai. All the crockery and cutlery, everything was there. Peter also was very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.

It was definitely toooo short and I will definitely go back at anytime.

It was really fantastic and it is strange for me to say that being a city girl."

Kudu cottage (name of the cottage we were assigned) was pristine, gorgeous and beautifully equipped. There was not one thing we could fault the owners on with regard to decor, maintenance, and overall care. Ortrud and Peter Herty were warm and welcoming from the onset. The little garden play area and pool were a treat for the kids. It was a true "home from home" experience. They were so accommodating, that even when our daughter left her costume there, Ortrud went to all the trouble to post it back to us, without any fuss at all. Certainly was a wonderful birthday weekend for me, and my family."

We paid for the Gecko Unit (studio style structure), but since the larger 2-bedroom apartment was available, they automatically upgraded us at no extra charge. We had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a living room area, along with a gas space heater to keep us warm. I had flown in from the United States a couple days before, and my luggage had been lost. The owners at Ithabiseng coordinated with the airport to have my luggage delivered, and it was waiting in the bedroom when I arrived. Furthermore, when we asked if they sold wine on the premises, the owners gave us a bottle of their personal wine. I cannot give enough praise to Itabiseng Guest House. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to anyone and everyone travelling through Bela Bela!"

"On the way to Ithabiseng we were talking and did not know what to expect. On arrival we were greeted by the deer and that got the children jumping and screaming in the car. So we were off to a good start, after meeting Peter we were informed that our accommodation has been changed to accommodate the children. Ortrud and Peter went through so much trouble to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The house we stayed in was outstanding and after being greeted by the tame ostrich the children went exploring, and they were greeted with toys and the kids corner.

Relax is the main word at Ithabiseng and that we did with twins, so for any one that just wants to break away Ithabiseng is the answer.

Peter and Ortrud thank you for a great weekend and next time we will definitely stay longer."

"100%"

"We had the most amazing stay at Ithabiseng. Everything was 100%. Ortrud and Peter are genuine and friendly hosts. Nothing was ever too much for them.

Every afternoon Peter took the kids to look for chicken eggs and when Ortrud took their dogs for a walk, she took the kids with.

Their home was open all hours for the kids to go in and watch TV
The pool size is brilliant for the kids to feel at home in
The kids loved the kid corner, specially the hammocks
We were in awe of the hand made furniture and curtains/duvet covers etc (made by Peter and Ortrud themselves)

My youngest son was in his element, discovering nature, which we no longer get in Jo'berg. We had the most amazing break and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to get away.

We wish the Hertys the best of luck in their dream come true. May they go from strength to strength in health and happiness.

After checking in, you are left alone to enjoy a restful stay with minimum disruption. The cottages are elegantly furnished with all you need for a weekend in the bushveld and are set in a private, unspoiled background. We will definitely be going back…"

"We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Ithabiseng. Our cottage was really clean, well laid out and comfortable. Attention to detail was evident all around our cottage and surrounding gardens. Our hosts - Ortrud and Peter - made us feel welcome, despite the fact that the heavens had opened in a true late afternoon thunder storm moments before our arrival! Breakfast was wholesome and the apple cake sublime! A gem of Bela-Bela and well worth a visit. "
