"Aandster"

(South Africa) Mrs Lovemore

"Excellent hospitality, and great Karoo food. Aandster was perfect for the four of us - sitting outside drinking wine under the beautiful night sky was a really special experience. Nieu Bethesda was made all the more special by our hostess."

"A nice little place to stay"

(South Africa) Mrs van den Bosch

"Rooms are clean and bed with electric blanket is great. Toilets and shower are fine. Tea and coffee making facilities available. Rustic, adequate, good value for money.

Great to sit on the stoep and listen to the animals in the morning. At night you can savour the quietness and marvel at the clear sky and brilliant stars.

A hearty breakfast is served by the very friendly ladies. More then enough to eat.

The local pub just down the road is fun, especially during the world cup soccer. A donkey ride around the town, with Jacob, is informative and you get a run down of the local history. Money well spent.

The Owl house is a must see - amazing. A pity we only booked a short stay. Next time we will have to stay longer and explore the rest of the town.

"I was so excited to be entering the town of Nieu Bethesda for the first time at the age of 50 - having heard so much about it I was naturally concerned that my expectations would be high and that I would be disappointed. Not so! On arrival outside Outsiders I was immediately struck that it was the end of the day and there were some people sitting on the stoep quaffing the beverage of their choice and chatting with friends. These could have been locals. On entering through the door I was assailed by a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and Katrien who introduced herself. I was amazed to hear all the information that she could impart about the town and beyond. Her lovely smile and twinkly blue eyes struck me as well as her accent that is not local but somehow you knew that this person was so happy right there in N. B. Later on I gleaned that she had been there for some 10 1/2 years already. The room was around the corner and looked on to a vegetable garden. the reason that we also felt so welcome is that we were travelling with a hound and she too was made to feel as welcome and could sit with us during meals and was even encouraged to teach the cat that it was not cool to beg at the breakfast table. Lovely warm room and glorious shower - all this helped as during the night the cock warned us of the impending dawn and the day ahead! After breakfast which was huge and served all day if you needed it to be, we were told there was no rush to move out of the room until we were ready and had done the town. I will recommend the Outsiders as welcoming, relaxed and warm - there just seemed no end to their hospitality and there was nothing that seemed to be any trouble at all - I felt that whatever I asked for I would have been given. I was sad to leave!"

"Water tower"

(Lesotho) Mr du Toit

"We stayed in the water tower. It was simple and nice. Something different and special. Sorry we couldn’t stay longer to enjoy the balcony and fresh air."

"Karoo Nights"

(South Africa) Dr Liebenberg

"The hosts were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean, with lovely clean linen and towels. The food was good and plentiful. Drawbacks were: no soap in the bathroom, but that was soon rectified. The town is peaceful and the environment is beautiful.

The brewery is a cool haven, and I enjoyed the honey beer very much. Altogether an enjoyable experience, and I would recommend it anytime."

"What a pleasure! Wonderfully welcomed by the residents of this lovely town. We raved and recommended this darling guest house to all our friends within an hour of being there. Katrin and Ian and their wonderful staff are amazing hosts In the first ten minutes we were informed about what to do and what to see in this most amazing and very interesting town. Supper was probably the best potjie we have ever tasted..... and we have tasted plenty. We were all offered seconds. Great value! Great port and wines offered. There were at least 40 guests for dinner. Breakfast was equally good. They run an honesty bar......... and it really seems to work! The guests all seemed really casual, sharing tables and stories, information and wonderful laughs. Accomodation - understated, fun, very comfortable and spotless. Only got home today and already planning our next trip to Outsiders with a group of family and friends. Cant wait to go again."
