"We had a wonderful stay at Zebra Lodge and it was very comfortable. Maretha was there to meet us on arrival and show us around. The house is very big and the surroundings are beautiful. We will definitely stay at Zebra Lodge again should we have another trip to the Karoo as it is affordable and lovely accommodation.

Thank you Maretha and the Zebra Lodge Team!"

"Extremely Enjoyable."

(South Africa) Thomas

"The host is very friendly. The old house has plenty of character. It is surrounded by the tranquility of the Klein Karoo with its mandatory ostriches. It is definitely worth a visit."

"We chose Zebra Lodge as our 4 year old granddaughter is crazy about zebras! We arrived in the dark, the sign boards are easily found and we arrived safely with Maretha waiting to greet us. The accommodation is neat, clean, well maintained and has everything that one requires. The lady who came daily to service the house was pleasant and cheerful. We had asked Maretha to prepare an evening meal for us as one of our party had a birthday while there and she happily served an excellent meal. The table had been laid in the afternoon while we were out and was typical zebra in white and black and white roses at each place, making it a very special occasion. Maretha was happy to share local history and interesting facts about the farm and area. We would gladly recommend Zebra Lodge and visit again in the future. Thank you to all concerned and a special thank you to Maretha."

"If you want to experience something different as well as see the stars in their full brightness at night, I fully recommend the Zebra Lodge between George and Oudtshoorn. This is a self-catering large and spacious farm house with lots of ostriches close by (fenced in). There is endless space for children to run around. There is a Pick ‘n Pay in Oudtshoorn, just 20 min away by car. The landlady is very friendly and helpful, providing one with good thorough South African hospitality, and I am sure any family will enjoy their stay as much as we did."

"The room and bathroom were both very spacious and clean. Lovely lady who owns it - very friendly and helpful! :-)"

"On arrival at the Zebra Lodge, which is on a farm, we were greeted by one of the family members and were made to feel welcome immediately. On entering the house one feels a sense of 'old world' and spaciousness with the high ceilings, beautiful wooden floors and stunning antique furniture. The lounge had comfortable seating as well as a beautiful wooden dining table with chairs.
The room which we stayed in was tastefully furnished with clean crisp bedding and towels with soap provided. We were pleased to see that tea /coffee and a kettle were available in our room. Our ensuite had a toilet, basin and a huge shower and no problem with the water flow which really impressed us.
The kitchen was a delight as it offered a homely atmosphere where all the guests could enjoy their meals together and swap stories of their lives. The kitchen had everything that one needed, a stove, fridge, microwave, cutlery and crockery, it even has a old coal stove in a huge fireplace, which will be a haven for visitors in the cold winter months.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tranquillity, safety and beauty of the farm with the ostriches just a few metres away, the stars shinning so bright in the night sky and the majestic mountains surrounding us. What a picturesque piece of heaven.
We cannot wait to return!"

"Quiet place but check on water conditions"

"This was a nice farm house converted so the rented rooms had ensuite bath rooms. Room sizes are good. The living room, kitchen, dining room table are all nice. The wood floors are quite creaky, but that didn't really bother us as we liked the rustic homey feel. There are lots of things to do within an hours drive - beaches on the coast, mountain drives, brandy tasting, "show farms" with ostrich and camels and activities for kids. But there is nothing right at the Zebra lodge except pens with ostriches. At the actual site there is no play equipment, no lawn, no pool, no walking trails (except the dirt roads which are very dusty when cars drive by). Bring groceries with you as the grocery store is in Oudtshoorn 20-30 minutes drive away. There is untreated rain water to drink but we brought bottled water. There has been a drought, so the tap water might be better at other times, but it was brown when we were there. We also did not have tap water at all half of each of the two days we stayed. The best thing was the sunrises and sunsets from the porch were lovely and you can watch ostrich up close from the yard and they are very interesting."

"We only stayed one night but will be staying longer next time. The kids just had so much fun exploring - sheep, ostriches, bugs! Watching the sunset, having red wine under the stars and waking up early to watch a Klein Karoo sunrise is something us city people do too seldom. It was quiet and peaceful (except for my two boys).
The homestead was built in 1820 and restored to its former splendour - beautiful Oregon floor and windows and high ceilings. The kitchen had all the basic and we enjoyed our supper and breakfast around the big table instead of on the hove or in front of the telly. We had a lovely room with an adjoining room for the kids. The bathroom had a nice big shower with plenty of hot water which came in handy after a day on the Outenique tjoo tjoo! Granny and grandpa’s just as lovely with a bathroom with a Victorian bath - ahh!
At an affordable price and enough space for 8, we'll be back!"

(South Africa) Mr VETNER

"Suitably located between Outshoorn and George, about midway. Well serviced and kept.
If old fashioned, rustic and tranquil are what you want, thehn this is the place.

"What more can you ask for? A beautiful old farmhouse fully equipped for self-catering purposes on a farm, away from everything. The owners were away on the afternoon of our arrival, but there was a very friendly worker to welcome us and show us around.
We particularly enjoyed the evenings around the kitchen table, preparing food and just chatting - "Kuier" soos ons in Afrikaans sal së.
Thank you for some great memories.

"Tranquility at Zebra Lodge"

(South Africa) Mrs Todd

"A true delight. The farm house is a treasure with its beautiful sash windows and yellow wood floors. The family heirlooms also lend a special air of history. The quiet and peace at sunset is a very special memory we will remember for a long time. We will definitely be back."

View from door step is of ostrich's - great. Drive over a stream. Look at the sheep. Real farm life. All rooms have fireplaces. Could be romantic in the winter.

Sunsets and Sunrises are wonderful... want to see how many stars there are in the sky... stand outside the back door in the early evening...great... highly recommended.

Really peaceful venue. "

"The accommodation met my expectations. Cleaning staff was helpful and cooperative. The farm environment was delightful. Will stay there again."
