I decided to go to Plettenberg Bay as part of my 40th birthday celebrations. I googled accommodation and to my utter delight, a picture of the most beautiful home on the dunes came up. I say “home” and not “house”, because that is exactly what it looked like. A lovely family home complete with 2 dogs. I knew this was where I wanted to stay. I immediately made the booking, an extra bonus was that our stay coincided with our 19th wedding anniversary. My 40th birthday party was a disaster and I was feeling old. My only hope was that Southern Cross would live up to my expectations and WOW, it did. It even exceeded them. On arrival at Plettenberg bay, we telephoned Southern Cross for directions and were assisted by a very courteous man named Edward. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm smile and a cold beverage. We made our way to the front of the home where the view was breathtaking. It was a perfect summer’s day. We kicked off our shoes and settled on loungers overlooking the ocean. We felt like we were experiencing a piece of Heaven. A wave of happiness enveloped me and I forgot about the disastrous birthday party and being old. If how I felt being at Southern Cross was an indication of what was to come, I was ready for a great 40th year. The accommodation was of a very high standard and each room was decorated impeccably with a lot of thought and love. An added bonus were the 2 dogs (Toby and Baloo). The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. I have never experienced such hospitality ever. After a day I felt revived, relaxed and happy. We also met other guests who, like us, had fallen in love with the family at Southern Cross and had become regulars. Upon leaving Southern Cross for home, a tear trickled down my cheek, but I was assured by my husband that we would be returning on a yearly basis. I will definitely be taking him up on the offer and will be going back at Easter Time. It really felt as though God was guiding us to the Southern Cross like he did the wise men. Yes, Southern Cross is definitely, a bit of heaven on earth!
