There are residential dogs that live in the BnB that bark and are noisy in the morning so if you're wanting to sleep in or have absolute peace on your holiday, this is not a great place to stay.

Safe and clean though, very close to shops and main road etc.

"We have just enjoyed a 10 night stay in the self-catering room Ò KEARSNEY Ò, which forms part of this charming B&B in the wonderful town of Montagu.

There is so much to rave about in this establishment , viz . The self-catering facilities are excellent and we wanted for nothing. The cupboards were well stocked with choice utensils and everything had been thought of in the room . There is an excellent fridge, microwave,2 plate stove etc and the rooms are cleaned regularly by the excellent Ò RosieÓ.

There are so many points that ÒsellÓÔ this B&B Ð in particular our room had a great air conditioning system (perfect in the summer heat), TV with 2 DSTV channels, braai facilities and in the grounds was a delightful splash pool. All these features coupled with very reasonable rates were a real winner for us!

If that is not enough, the owner Ð David Ð is an amazing person, so helpful and charming and must be the most well travelled person imaginable and he can recreate so many amazing tales from around the world.

The peace and quiet of the B&B and town in general are also worth the cost of the stay alone and the town has so many attractions from historical buildings, dried fruit sales and wine cellars, mineral springs and the wonderful mountains that surround it. Not surprisingly it was voted ÒTown of the YearÒ in 2012.

On the last day of our visit we had breakfast in the dining room (at an additional cost) Ð well, we have had breakfast in many, many different establishments but this must certainly rate as one of Ð if not THE best, that we have experienced. The amount of effort that David puts into producing such a top quality breakfast is rare in B&BÕs and not only is it delicious but also a feast for the eyes! Really worthwhile to have.

With the magnificent garden and the owners being meticulous about every aspect of their business there can be no better place to stay in Montagu and we hope that Somerset Lodge just goes from strength to strength!

Meandering through the lovely garden, we reached our room, The Bishops Room, which was the room that we had requested. We found the room to be very neat, clean, and tastefully decorated, with a little covered patio overlooking the lovely splash pool. The room was fully air-conditioned, which was divine and most appreciated as the weekend was a hot one! The beds were super-comfortable, which encouraged us to "lie-in" for a bit in the morning. We enjoyed being able to sit on our veranda with friends (who were also staying there) for postprandial drinks.
The pool was welcoming too.
Our host, David, was great and helpful with local advice regarding restaurants etc.
We needed a car for the short drive to the centre of Montague although younger people would have managed to short walk it.
