We spent a night there many years ago and I cannot understand why we've never been back. We were with some friends visiting from America and they wanted a Karoo farm experience. Kuilfontein came to mind as the best Karoo experience we'd had ever, and this time it did not disappoint. One the way there we were phoned by Patricia and asked what we'd like for dinner. The choice was Venison Pie, Lamb Chops, Lemon & Herb Chicken, or Salmon. We chose Lamb Chops except for one Lemon and Herb Chicken. The meal was outstanding with a Springbok Carpaccio starter, main course, followed by Panna Cotta. Patricia is an incredible hostess, coming to meet us on arrival and making us feel at home from the start. When we went to breakfast there was an incredible spread and I thought we were having a continental/Dutch style breakfast, which would have been fine. Then we were asked what eggs we'd like and how we'd like them. The hospitality from Grant & Lexie the owners who mingle with the guests is also very warm. One gets the chance to meet and mingle with the other guests in a way I've never encountered anywhere else in an overnight stop-over. The presentation of the food is an added plus. The food was very good, using home grown lamb and veggies - all served by Patricia who anticipated our every need.
The history of Kuilfontein was very interesting to read in the pamphlet provided in our room and the furnishings included antiques from the 1800s, keeping to the very authentic old farmhouse feel.
