"weekend stay"

"Enjoyed our stay, hope to be back sometime.
Lovely town"

"Location is good, things to improve on"

Brian Looney | 15 January 2018

"No drinking water in the bedroom, pillow very uncomfortable, liquid soap instead of a bar soap, no toothpaste. The TV is just in the bedroom to tick a box, not in a proper position. "

"Good to see"

Gerda Prinsloo | 1 January 2018

"Very nice place for an overnight stay "

"Very Accommodating Staff"

Natascha Strauss | 25 April 2017

"Checking in was effortless. They were very accommodating by allowing us to drop our car and bags before hopping onto the wine tram. "

"Convenient elegance"

(South Africa) Henri Prinsloo | 18 August 2015

"A pleasant stay in an elegant room. Comfortable beds with crisp white sheets and a nice sized clean bathroom. Walking distance to a host of excellent restaurants.  The outside rooms are on a well traveled road. Breakfast was simple but good.

"The Loft Suite was beautifully decorated and had a stunning and romantic bathroom. The breakfast was well presented and delicious. My only complaint perhaps was that the kettle had to be moved to be able to plug it in, perhaps a change of the coffee facilities location will sort it out. The specific room might not be ideal for tall people due to the slope of the ceiling, but I'm not tall, so quite enjoyed it. Will definitely recommend staying over."

"We spent a wonderful 3 nights at Le Ballon Rouge. Jenny & David were excellent hosts and made our stay most enjoyable. The guest house is beautiful, well situated and stylish. Our only disappointment was the fact that there was no working restaurant to serve evening meals/lunches which is a great pity as it would have been good to have been able to enjoy a leisurely meal on the terrace or lovely courtyard."

"Great Location, Great Town"

We stayed in an upstairs deluxe room which was very good and had air con, which was needed. The Ballon Rouge has a small pool and 6 - 8 sun beds. All in all a very good position in the heart of town, very safe parking and you can stroll out at night for something to eat and watch the world pass by."

"This small lodge was absolutely lovely. Our room was decorated very nicely and had a beautiful marble bath. There were two sunny patios, one with a pool. The service was friendly and responsive. The neighborhood was fantastic with excellent restaurants, art gallaries and up scale botiques within a half block walk. By car, at least 35 wineries are available for tasting and there are beautiful views all around. It was an excellent value for the money."

"Beautiful old world charm in a very central location. Arrived and had a warm greeting from the manager before being shown to our booked room which was one of the lower priced ones, not disappointed in the slightest! It opened out to the covered stoep with its own little table and chairs to sit on. Clean and tidy with everything you needed in a good sized room with en suite. Our friends were taken to their room which was a more upmarket one with a queen sized bed and full en suite. This room was in the inner courtyard located next to the plunge pool and again was clean, tidy and of a good size. Breakfast was included and gave a good selection including full English with very polite and attentive staff. The hotel is literally a stones throw from the Main Street which has an array of eating establishments and shops. Would I stay again? Yes I’m already planning our next trip and this will be our preferred accommodation!"

"One night at Le Ballon Rouge!"

(South Africa) David | 19 June 2016

"From the moment you walk into the reception, everything is authentic. The receptionist, the reading area, the paintings on the walls, the room itself, up to the friendly and warm fireplace atmosphere at breakfast!
A recommendation to everyone visiting Franschhoek!"

We called Le Ballon Rouge and were told a room was available, although not the one we had reserved so we agreed to have it. After one night the staff moved everything for us into a larger room. Both rooms were top class. This establishment is first rate. It is very conveniently situated near to shops and restaurants. The breakfasts were delicious, the staff very attentive and the atmosphere perfect. Will definitely stay there again if we are ever in Franschoek. We also had a great rapport with the hostess!"

The linen was of a high quality and I enjoyed a good night's rest. A guest joined me for breakfast which was substantial and good value served in a pleasant dining room. The bill settlement was quick and efficient. I will be returning out of season to stay at Le Ballon Rouge - with a friend! Rooms for Africa handled the reservation with diplomacy and professionalism."

"We stayed in Le Ballon Rouge for two nights in May. The guesthouse was truly superb, the exterior was in fitting with the normal Franschhoek buildings, the interior was wonderfully decorated with a modern contempory feel, as you would find with a high end 5 star hotel. All modern amenities were facilitated. It’s definitely the first place I’ve stayed where there was a high quality coffee machine with excellent coffee included in the price.

The owners Jenny and David really looked after us and made us feel truly welcome from the moment we walked into the place. David took us on a wine tour of four different vineyards, which was excellent. He was highly knowledgeable about the regions wines and brought us to the best vineyards the region had to offer. I highly recommend doing this if you visit and the tour is very reasonably priced.

Jenny also recommended both places to eat and places to visit, which really made the visit that bit more special. Staying at the Le Ballon Rouge was definitely the highlight of our visit to South Africa and I cannot recommend this place enough. You won’t be disappointed with a stay here.

Thanks again Jenny and David – See you next time!

"We had a lovely room in quiet surroundings. Very close to the main street where most of the restaurants were. The owners were very helpful & arranged dinner reservations for us. Bookings for these good restaurants were essential as there seemed to be great demand but the owners obviously knew the locals & were able to get us tables.
Very nice breakfast but they no longer operate their own restaurant at night. There was secure parking for us right beside our room & the premises at night were patrolled by a security person.
When we arrived back from golf the next day someone had put our bottle of coke into an ice bucket ready for our vodka pre dinner drink!

"To equilibrate our budget"

Nice room with terrace in front.

"Le Ballon Rouge is located in central Franschhoek and is quite easy to find. The cleanliness and courtesy of the staff is above average and all in all this was a pleasant stay. After staying in many South African guest houses we found that Le Ballon Rouge lacked a few of the 'little touches' which we had become accustomed to. Storage in the room was inadequate and gave us that sense of living from a suitcase which so many holiday goers find depressing. The female manager (cannot remember her name, sorry) is very pleasant and very helpful but is let down slightly by the owners choice of decor/storage etc.

Le Ballon Rouge is perfect for those who intend to use their room strictly for sleeping but not so for people looking to relax and take it all in."
