"My wife and I stayed three nights at Bullers Rest Lodge in February. It is ideally situated for visiting the battlefields around Ladysmith. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner, Andy, and his daughter, Nicky, and the office staff, Pat and Heather. Heather arranged a guide to take us on a day's tour of the Anglo-Boer War battle sites.

What we appreciated the most about Bullers Rest Lodge, was the evening meal. Each evening about six to nine guests sit down to an excellent three course dinner (with wine) - cooked by Nikky. We enjoyed the conversation with the other guests and we were all made to feel part of a family.

Bullers Rest Lodge is also a small museum of the Anglo-Boer War. This adds to its charm and interest and Andy is a wealth of information on that war. "

The entrance is extremely unusual, with a large and imposing wooden gate, giving one a sense of entering a military encampment. The receptionist was helpful and the rooms were comfortable, furnished with authentic looking antique chests, cupboards and wardrobes. The beams holding the thatch had been painted white, giving a feeling of light in what could have been dark rooms.
We had ordered supper which proved to be both different and appetising!
Our breakfasts were served by extremely happy and friendly waitresses and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay of two nights. I will be recommending Bullers Rest Lodge to my friends.

"While heading on our annual family holiday, I had to attend to some urgent business in Ladysmith. With children, bicycles, fishing rods and an over loaded car. I needed to find refuge and offload as many possessions as possible before heading off to a business meeting.
We came across Bullers Rest Lodge. They were very polite and courteous in our reservation and nothing was too much trouble for them. They allowed us to check in early so that we could do the luggage dump before heading out to attend to business matters. They also allowed us to check out late the next day so that we could at least have an adventure in the old battlefields the next morning.
The rooms were clean, neat and decorated with taste. Dinner was jovial as they encourage guests to dine together, share stories and pretty much enjoy themselves.
We’ll be back.
