"We only spent one night, but our room was very spacious and comfortable and overlooked the ocean and river mouth. We had driven a long way and so decided to eat at the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious, and our hosts very accommodating. A lovely place to stay."

"Our overall stay in Port St Johns was fantastic. As we had never been there before there was a lot to see and do. Our host at Umzimvubu Retreat (Dries) was most accomodating and had many suggestions for outings etc. The accomodation is clean and comfortable. The food is excellent at Umzimvubu. In fact in general we found the food in the area to be of a very high standard. It would have been better if there was more of a lounge area for guests, but I believe that they are in the process of doing additions and improvements in that area. The DSTV was a bit of a problem in that, when watching a programme suddenly you are watching another programme as it is controlled by the hosts and they therefore change the programme at will, even if it is in the middle of some programme. We would definately visit this area again but perhaps on a self catering basis next time. Thanks for the recommendation."

"Best place for peace and tranquility"

"As a new married couple, we needed time for ourselves away from the rat-race

and Umzimvubu was the ideal place. The scenery alone is stress relieving "

"This place is situated on a beautiful First Beach overlooking Umzimvubu River Mouth and Indian Ocean. Amazing views! We've enjoyed a home-cooked meal at the restaurant after a long drive from East London.
Our room was big but a bit impersonal, all the brochures and information leaflets provided at the place had way too many "don'ts" to our taste. It felt a bit unwelcoming.
Very cute dog and beautiful garden."

"We booked by telephone months in advance after viewing the resort on the internet. It did not disappoint, and the friendly staff lived up to their promise to give us a room with an ocean view. We arrived after dark, were welcomed by name and told not to worry about the formalities until after we'd relaxed and were ready for dinner... where the food and service was unpretentious, but definitely to be recommended. A great place to break the long drive up through the Wild Coast. Our only regret was that we did not spend more time there."

"Peter's Comments"

(United Kingdom) anonymous | 19 March 2007

"Lovely views, good service and very friendly welcome. Unfortuantely the heavens opened and it rained for our entire stay. "

"Foggy"

(Netherlands) Mr Willem Stalknecht | 9 December 2006

"A great guest house and good food. It's a pity that we had fog from and to St John and did not see anything of the environment
The guest house was great"
