Widely considered to be one of the world’s greatest ultra-marathons, the Comrades is a 90 kilometre long race between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Each year the race alternates direction.
The Comrades has become a South African institution since it began in 1921 running every year except between 1941 and 1945 due to World War II. The race is well known for being a very tough race, but this hardship creates great camaraderie between runners who encourage each other across the line.
